About Trout Unlimited
For more than 40 years, TU has been the leader in protecting one
of America's last great national treasures: our nation's trout
and salmon fisheries. By combining "on the ground" restoration
efforts, a cutting edge scientific research and effective advocacy
on behalf of our coldwater fisheries, TU has been an effective
steward.
Through 450 chapters nationwide (34 in NY) TU National, NYS Council and
our chapters, we are able to organize grassroots stream restoration projects,
conservation programs, trout and salmon in the classroom programs, youth
education events and advocacy work.
We work at the state and local levels to provide a voice for the fish
and coldwater resources of NYS. This helps maintain existing protections
and challenges new threats to our trout, salmon and the environment almost
daily.

instructions.
To help recruit more dedicated members, we are pleased to introduce
the special introductory rate of $17.50 for you as a prospective
new TU member. By recruiting new members in a chapter or council,
TU will return the entire first years dues as a rebate—$15
directly to the chapter (checks sent twice a year) and the
end-of-year rebate of $2.50/member back to the state council for
operations. This is a policy agreed upon by your chapter and state
council leaders that will support their efforts in conservation.
The rebate system of past years has been revamped, improved,
and designed to create greater revenue for TU chapters. This
is a result of the new program strategies TU National is currently
implementing for fiscal year 2004. The old system has been restructured
as it was outdated, inefficient and was unable to offer councils
and chapters the potential for significant growth, both in membership
and revenue.
By joining TU the new Rebate and Membership system is
as follows:
Chapters and councils can offer a first years TU membership(new)
for special rate of $17.50. This new member registration cannot be
used for previously expired or archived members. There are no more
premiums or gifts for this new member signing.
New members can join by mail:
- Use applications printed by TU National or print your
own. These are the current applications with the $17.50 offer. Any
old applications will still be taken and you can just submit the $17.50
instead of $35.
- Make sure that you have printed or written your chapter
number (#559) or council code (NYCL) in the appropriate box. This box
is in the bottom right corner as Code: Members that do not fill the
box will be assigned by zip code.
New members can join on the web: https://secure.tu.org/join/join.asp
- Members can go to www.tu.org/intro
- You will be prompted to enter a code (either
chapter number{#559} or council code{NYCL}). This code box is on
the bottom right of the form. If you do not enter a code, members
who join on this page will be assigned by zip code to a chapter near
by.

Renewals support your chapter through expenditures
by TU National. 81% of all TU national's expenditures goes
directly into programming for membership. That is approximately $67 per
member that is spent supporting grass roots TU members in some manner. The
membership acquisition program coupled with our existing programs are
going to lead to a rewarding future for TU.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Wendy
Reed, membership, at wreed @tu.org . Thanks for your support and membership. We look forward with
you to make TU bigger, stronger and more financially prepared to meet
the challenges of coldwater conservation.
